Sorry not replying earlier, I’ve been having a few health problems that will not get any better.
When I came up with Challenge 50, I set a low target believing we would reach it at most in a couple months but as soon as you count your chickens the fox pop’s in,
The previous years we’d be home and hosed in five weeks or less not always but a lot.
It’s a harder now I have to rely on the Exchanges for the majority of my betting as the markets don’t firm up till later in the day it’s very tying, up to a couple a years ago I could do the ratings and put all my bets at BOG in less than an hour the evening before, hence the old name Fire & Forget.
But then it was Challenge 200 now I’m happy to grab a quick 5k and watch the world go by with no ties, we all get older.
The profit margin and convenience has vastly reduced with less racing, the loss of Bog the evening before and the introduction of 48 hours declarations which make N/R’s a nightmare.
Now it may seem like desertion but I don’t have the enthusiasm, commitment and concentration to go all season I once had, the days of been a hungry fighter are gone, I don’t eat a lot anymore, still drink a lot mind.
Another disappointment is, in April when we start we may have 40 and more following but after few bad weeks this drops to less than 20 Now those that leave have probably lost money because they didn’t stay to completion, my intention is to help people not lose them money which in turn means though we’ve made profit every year it’s a failure because more people have lost than won, which defies the object.
I’ve no intention of closing the site as long I’m able but at 77 things do get harder but not impossible and Goodwood end of July can be friendly, also August can throw-up a big priced winner or two, see how I feel, but I won't make promises I may not be able to keep.
You never go broke taking a profit W Buffet
Sorry to hear about your health John. Thank you for giving us a chance to make money, not many do! Like the OP I will look forward to any selections you put up in the future, I always have.
All the best
Scott
